For example if you have a video that you have brought back or purchased from the USA, Canada or Japan, it will almost certainly be an NTSC tape that would be unplayable in the UK. Therefore you would require a conversion from NTSC to PAL which is the UK standard. This conversion could be either made directly to video tape, or onto DVD.
